The Democratic Party’s Imperialist Hypocrisy — -4/20/24
The “left-wing” of the Democratic Party has bent over backwards to pretend to sympathize with Gaza. They have called for a ceasefire and even threatened to stop sending aid to Israel over its genocide. None of these politicians including the Squad and the Progressive caucus in the House of Representatives are actually anti-Zionist. While critical of the recent ongoing genocide, they all have voted for military aid to Israel in the past. They all want Israel to be a bit less harsh. For many if not all of them, this is advice of a PR nature. They defend Israel against its own excesses, just like Joe Biden.
This was shown clearly on 4/20 in the House of Representatives’ vote. Included in the 95 Billion dollar package was 26 billion for Israel. Just the military portion of this is about 5 times the usual annual allotment from the U.S. to Israel.
Democrats Are Complicit in Genocide
How did the progressive left wing of the Democrats vote? (Remember some of these are self-proclaimed socialists and are backed by DSA which claims to support Palestine). On the initial vote on whether the U.S. should send $26 billion to Israel, 37 Democrats and 21 Republicans voted against the aid. That means less than 20% of all Democrats voted against this aid package many with the explicit purpose of pressuring Israel to clean up its act just a little to avoid international condemnation. Even Nancy Pelosi who denounced pro-Palestine demonstrators as Russian and Chinese agents, said she would oppose this current aid package.
But that was just the first vote. The House also voted to send over 60 billion to Ukraine to back up the U.S./NATO intervention against Russia. It also sent military aid to Taiwan to maintain the cold war with China. It also voted to ban Tik Tok after a year if it is still owned by China.
The vote on the final package, including aid to Israel, was passed with ALL 210 Democrats voting YES !
The supposed champions of the Palestinians, the politicians trying so hard to coopt the movement and pretend sympathy, in the end voted to stab the Palestinians in the back! They had it both ways: They pretended to be in support of a ceasefire by the U.S. and Israel; they pretended to oppose the genocide by cutting off U.S. arms to Israel at least for now. In the end, they still backed Genocide Joe’s aid to Netanyahu. In the end, their allegiance to Zionism and U.S. imperialism overcame their crocodile tears.
Along the way, they also continued to back U.S. militarism in Ukraine. When this package is finally sent to Biden’s desk, the U.S. will have extended $170 Billion in this U.S. imperialist rivalry with Russia.
If there was ever any doubt about the Democrats being a resolutely imperialist party , and there never should have been, this should settle the question. “ Progressive “ Democrats are merely the hypocritical left cover for this imperialist, capitalist anti-working class party.
